Director's Note

Who is Boguslaw Schaeffer? One may say he’s a world known contemporary music composer, graphic artist, playwright. Someone else will point out that whatever he does he always composes, but the world hardly has an idea about it. In a music store you will find Gorecki’s, Kilar’s or Penderecki’s records, but not Schaeffer’s. Is he an abandoned genius? Did he go too far and lost himself? One thing is certain – solitude.

A Short Story of "Solo"

It took nearly five years after a meeting of the composer, Boguslaw Schaeffer, and the director, Maciej Pisarek, to collect budget for this production. Since then it took 15 months to finish the film.

Once “Solo” was completed, in January 2008, it was broadcasted by two Polish cable/satellite tv stations which were its co-producers: January 2008 - TVP Polonia; April 2008 - TVP Kultura. TVP Polonia screened the film again in July 2008.

On the 28th of April 2008 there was a special gala premiere screening of the film in Polski Theatre, Warsaw, with attendance of its protagonist, Prof. Boguslaw Schaeffer, along with a concert of his music performed by Chamber Orchestra 'Amadeus' conducted by Agnieszka Duczmal.
